Construction firms will enjoy another nine months on a £1bn framework that had been due to expire next month.
In 2020, Wates and 15 other firms, including 13 SMEs, were appointed to the North and Mid-Wales Residential Construction Framework, with a four-year lifespan.
But the Welsh Procurement Alliance (WPA) and LHC Procurement Group, which awarded the framework, said they needed more time to consider their options for replacing the current arrangements when they expire in April.
A procurement notice published by the bodies said: “LHC/WPA are currently considering our future options in relation to the provision of our housing construction framework and therefore this extension is required to allow for the review to take place and any subsequent actions while still providing an option for WPA partners to use for call-off contracts.”
The framework consists of eight separate lots covering Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham, Ceredigion, and North and South Powys.
In addition, a “super-lot” covers the entire area.
Each lot is divided into value bands for delivery of developments of up to five homes, six to 15 homes, 16-49 homes and 50 homes and above.
Work to be carried out includes new-build houses, bungalows, flats, apartments and care homes.
The framework also provides for the delivery of community buildings associated with the residential developments such as hubs, sports and recreation facilities, and libraries. It also allows for the delivery of commercial facilities like car parks and retail units.
The new framework duration is set at 57 months.
