Kier and Morgan Sindall scoop spots on £400m framework

Major contractors including Kier and Morgan Sindall have been named on a bumper construction framework run by Essex County Council.

The four-year framework will cover design and construction services for public sector projects including capital construction and major maintenance jobs.

Essex County Council is running the £400m framework, but it is also available to other contracting authorities within the county, including the police, education services and NHS bodies. The framework replaces a previous iteration which ended earlier this year.

Morgan Sindall and RG Carter were both named on two of the framework’s three lots, while Kier scooped a spot on the third lot (see full list of contractors below).

The lots are split by value, with the first lot for work worth up to £750,000. Essex County Council expects to award £102.5m of work on the first lot. All five firms on the first lot are SMEs.

Lot two is for work worth between £500,000 and £4m, while lot three covers work valued at more than £4m. The third lot is expected to award around £190m of work, while £107.5m has been earmarked for the second lot.

Morgan Sindall was named on lots two and three, alongside RG Carter. Cadman Construction, a Colchester-based contractor with a turnover of £11.7m, was named on both lots as well.

Bam, Willmott Dixon and Graham were all named on the pervious iteration of the framework, but did not get a spot this time out.

Morgan Sindall has already scooped other bumper contracts for public work in Essex this year, including a £60m contract to revamp six hospitals in the county under the ProCure23 framework.

The contractor also scooped a spot on a £1.6bn decarbonisation framework covering the whole of the UK. Kier was also named on the framework.
