Transfer news live updates: January window tracker including Manchester United, Barcelona latest

Brighton & Hove Albion have recalled Carl Rushworth from his loan spell with Hull City as injury cover for Jason Steele.

Steele, 34, has been ruled out with an unconfirmed issue which requires surgery.

“We have recalled Carl, with Jason Steele due to undergo surgery on a problem which will sideline him for a period,” said Brighton technical director David Weir.

Rushworth’s season-long loan deal with Hull included a break clause for a limited period at the beginning of the January transfer window.

The England Under-21 international will now provide competition for Brighton No 1 Bart Verbruggen, alongside back up goalkeeper Killian Cahill.

The Athletic previously reported that Hull’s head coach Ruben Selles was keen to keep Rushworth, but the financial arrangements of the agreement were prohibitive to the club retaining his services.

Rushworth made only three appearances for Hull since joining at the end of the summer transfer window but all have come over the last month in place of previous first choice Ivor Pandur.
