Greenhouse Grower‘s sister brand, CEAg World, in collaboration with Agritecture Consulting, has released the results of its 2024 Global CEA Census Report. The census includes 450 industry professionals across 75 countries sharing their insights and perspectives on the following controlled environment agriculture (CEA) categories:
These growers from around the world shared their experiences, concerns, and priorities regarding the industry. However, this year’s results from the Global CEA Census Report show tremendous optimism, with more than 80% of respondents planning to expand their operations and production areas within the next two years.
“The 2024 Global CEA Census is more than just numbers — it’s a roadmap for the future of farming,” says Henry Gordon-Smith, founder and CEO of Agritecture, which launched the Global CEA Census in 2019. “By uncovering industry trends and opportunities, we’re helping growers and innovators alike make smarter decisions, accelerate innovation, and drive agriculture toward a more resilient, climate-smart future.”
Some findings of the 2024 Global CEA Census Report include:
- Cost is the top barrier to tech adoption.
- Newer farms are diversifying their crops, including with edible flowers, microgreens, and specialty herbs.
- Renewable energy and sustainable solutions are being integrated into operations more and more.
- There is an uneven integration of the latest ag tech throughout world regions.
