Chloe Kelly, Lucy Parker added to England squad for Nations League fixtures

Chloe Kelly and Lucy Parker have been called up to the England squad after injuries to Beth Mead and Lotte Wubben-Moy.

Wubben-Moy, 26, was absent from the Arsenal squad which beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-0 in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, while Mead was an unused substitute.

Kelly, 27, made her Arsenal debut off the bench during the game at the Emirates Stadium, playing half an hour.

The winger signed for Arsenal on loan on deadline day after falling out of favour at Manchester City. She had previously been named in the England squad for the friendlies against the United States and Switzerland in November before being left out by Sarina Wiegman last week.

After the squad was announced, Wiegman told a news conference that Kelly had “not played enough” and her situation “would be looked at again” if she started getting regular minutes at Arsenal.

“We had a good conversation yesterday and she understands,” Wiegman added. “She’s not out for the Euros. When she gets back, she’s in full training of course and hopefully, she can get the minutes. There’s a huge amount of competition in the team.”

England travel to Portugal on Friday, February 21 and then host Spain three days later at Wembley Stadium in a pair of Nations League fixtures.
