How to Make a Butterfly with Tissue Paper
Supplies Needed To Make Butterfly Suncatchers
Don’t be afraid to substitute what you might have on hand at home there are so many different ways and different looks that can make a beautiful 3D paper butterfly craft!
Directions to Make Tissue Paper Butterflies
Step 1
After gathering supplies, instruct kids to decoupage the tissue paper squares onto the bubble wrap with Mod Podge and a brush. Kids get a kick out of decoupaging bubble wrap and probably won’t be able to resist popping a small bit!
We used tissue paper in beautiful colors like white, yellow, red, green, blue, purple, red and orange tissue paper sheets. Let kids choose their own specific colors for unlimited variations in butterfly designs.
Step 2
While the bubble wrap is drying, invite your child to paint their craft sticks black. I have also seen wooden pegs used instead of a popsicle stick which will result in a little heavier final butterfly.
Step 3
When the bubble wrap is dry, cut it into the shape of a butterfly’s wings, then put a small fold in it and secure with hot glue.
Glue the colorful bubble wrap wings to the back of the craft stick.
Step 4
Using hot glue (or other type of glue) add black twine or yarn antennae to the back of the craft stick.

Materials
- Black twine
- Black paint
- Bubble wrap
- Wide craft sticks
- Tissue paper, cut into 1 inch squares
- Glue
Tools
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brush
- Hot Glue Gun
Instructions
- Gather supplies together.
- Give kids the tissue paper squares and a sheet of bubble wrap.
- Have them paint the mod podge on the bubble wrap and then lay the colorful squares on top creating a colorful rainbow collage.
- Set aside to dry.
- Paint the craft stick black.
- Once dried, cut the tissue paper bubble wrap into wings and glue to the back of the craft stick folding the winds slightly at the body.
- Add black twine antennae to the butterfly.
- Hang in the window!
