Graeme Lowdon, a motorsports veteran, will be the team principal for Cadillac, as announced by General Motors and TWG Global on Thursday. The move comes 10 days after Formula One announced it reached “an agreement in principle” with GM for it to become the 11th team on the grid in 2026.
Lowdon has served as an adviser on the project for two years and is currently Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu’s manager. (Zhou will be off the grid after this season.) Lowdon’s background includes team management, engineering and operations in F1 and the World Endurance Championship. He served as the CEO of Manor when it was in F1 during the Virgin and Marussia days and oversaw Manor Motorsport’s WEC program.
“I’m truly honored to be appointed as the Team Principal of this exciting new team, and I would like to thank everyone involved for placing their trust in me,” Lowdon said in the announcement. “I believe that Formula 1 is the greatest team sport in the world, and teams are all about people. This is a team with a real love for and desire to go racing, and we have the experience and expertise to do just that. Racing is at the very heart of everything that we do.
“This is what I want to see in a team, and I really want to be part of it. I don’t underestimate the task ahead and I have the utmost respect for the competition. I look forward to the challenge of racing. In the meantime, our work continues at pace.”
The bid started as Andretti-led in January 2023, which Formula One Management rejected. However, the project expanded throughout 2024, bringing on new hires across different departments. The operations will be spread across numerous locations: Silverstone, England; Fishers, Indiana; Warren, Michigan; and Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Graeme has been advising our team for the last two years as we have built out our operations,” said Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsport business, in the announcement, adding, “his experience on both the technical and managerial sides of Formula 1 and other motorsports ventures will serve him well as he builds the Cadillac Formula 1 team.”
