The Harcourts Foundation has made a grant to Launceston’s Police and Citizens Youth Club to help empower the youth to reach their full potential.

Launceston’s leading youth organisation has had a significant funding boost from the Harcourts Foundation via a grant for $16,800.
The Police and Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) aims to empower and engage youth to recognise and reach their potential.
“Our mission is to partner with police, community and education to offer diverse activities and programs that develop young people’s passion, skills and connections whilst making a positive contribution to society and reducing engagement with the justice system,” Club Manager Melissa Matthys said.
The Harcourts Foundation grant is fully funding ASCENT.
ASCENT, which stands for Achieve Strength, Courage, Empowerment, and Nurture Together, is an eight-week programme focused on building resilience, self-esteem and encouraging positive relationships.
PCYC partners with the Department of Education and Tasmania Police to identify which individuals are at risk of engaging in the youth justice system.
“With ASCENT running into its sixth year of operation we were desperately in need of funding to continue to positively impact the lives of young females,” Ms Matthys said.
David Hernyk, from Harcourts Launceston, said it was great to be able to help their community.
“A friend and client of mine is also a volunteer at the PCYC locally,” Mr Hernyk said.
“He mentioned they were having funding trouble with their Youth at Risk programs this year.
“I mentioned the Harcourts Foundation and connected the dots.
“The program aligned perfectly with our core values of people first, doing the right thing, being courageous, fun and laughter, I couldn’t have thought of a better fit.”
Ms Matthys said the grant would make a significant difference in the lives of young people and provide them with vital resources and opportunities to overcome challenges, build resilience and unlock their full potential.
“With your support, we can continue to deliver impactful programs and interventions that empower vulnerable youth and help them thrive,” Ms Matthys said.
