How To Make A Robot

Anyone that knows me know that I am all about making recycled crafts. I save all my toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, empty cans, yogurt containers, plastic lids, snack boxes, and the list goes on. So I dove into my recycling stash to come up with this quirky cereal box robot you can make with the kids! A recycled robot craft has got to be one of my best ideas yet.

Crafting is such wonderful bonding time, and also a good time to teach children lessons. Like the importance of taking care our planet. Recycling and upcyling are a couple of ways to do this. Plus, easy recycled and upcycled crafts for kids allow you to craft and stay within a budget, since most of your supplies are things that you would’ve discarded otherwise! It can be such a rewarding and memorable crafting experience.

Supples Needed To Make A Recycled Robot

This robot is made from various recycled items. There’s of course the cereal box, but also empty vegetable cans, a paper towel tube, and quite a few lids I’ve been saving. Use whatever stash you have to make your  recycled robot!

How To Make A Super Awesome Robot From Recycled Materials

Steps 1-4 - Apple jack box covered in tinfoil with a hole cut into it.  Wrap tin foil around a toilet paper roll and add it to the hole. How to Make a robot- Recycled Crafts: Cereal Box Robot
Put something in your robot and then cover it in tin foil. Then get ready to make the arms and insert them into the sockets.

Step 1

To give the robot’s body some weight, first you’ll want to put something inside the cereal box. I used an old sweatshirt. An old towel, a bag of dried beans, lots of wadded up newspaper, anything like that will work!

Step 2

Wrap the cereal box in aluminum foil and use tape to secure.

Step 3

Use a craft knife to carve holes in the side of the box for the arms.

Step 4

Cut the paper towel tube in half, and wrap both halves in aluminum foil.

Step 5

Insert the tubes into the sides of the cereal box.

Steps 6-8 - Cover the tin cans in aluminum foil glue the colorful lids as knobs- How to make a robot-Recycled Crafts: Cereal Box Robot
Cover the cans in tinfoil and then add the buttons and knobs to your robot.

Step 6

Wrap each of the cans in aluminum foil.

Step 7

Use various lids to decorate the front of the cereal box.

Step 8

Glue lids onto the large can for eyes; then glue bottle caps to the lids for the pupils.

Step 9

Glue a metal nut on as the nose.

Steps 10-11- Draw lines on the white paper and make smaller lines through it then wrap your pipe cleaner around a pencil. How to make a robot Recycled Crafts: Cereal Box Robot
Draw your lines and prepare your antennas!

Step 10

Draw several lines onto white paper, then draw a single line through those lines. Use scissors to cut mouth from the lined paper and tape to the tin can.

Step 11

Wrap silver pipe cleaner around a pencil, then glue inside the large can.

Step 12

Glue the head and legs to the cereal box to complete your robot.
