Jeremy Monga: Leicester hopeful of new contract for 15-year-old, says Ruud van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy has said Leicester City are hopeful of announcing a new contract for teenage winger Jeremy Monga.

The 15-year-old, who began his GCSE exams in school this week, has attracted attention from a number of clubs including Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid, following his displays in Leicester’s Under-21 side.

However, despite only being able to train with the first team a couple of times per week because of school, Van Nistelrooy has given him five senior appearances.

“We want a future with him and hoping we can announce a contract with him soon,” Van Nistelrooy told talkSPORT.

Monga came off the bench again during the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest and nearly scored a winner with a curling effort.

“If he can stay and this is his future, and he can make minutes and build him into his pathway,” Van Nistelrooy said in his post-match press conference after the game.

“I have had many conversations with him and his family and hopefully he can sign soon. But it is up to him.

“It is a joy to work with him. We sometimes talk about his GCSEs and mathematics, and I have to help him with that also, but then we talk about football also. He nearly scored a winner here also. That would have been a fairytale.”

Leicester return to action on May 18 when they host Ipswich Town, with both sides already relegated to next season’s Championship.
