Herve Renard has been replaced as France Women head coach by his former assistant Laurent Bonadei.
Renard, 55, makes way following a disappointing showing in the women’s soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics, where the hosts were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by eventual silver medallists Brazil.
Bonadei has signed a three-year deal and will lead his country at next summer’s European Championship in Switzerland.
The 54-year-old previously worked under Renard during his time in charge of the Saudi Arabian national team, before following him to work for the French women’s side in March 2023.
Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation (FFF) said, “We wanted to have a coach who knows the French team and women’s football, with a wealth of experience, high standards and a sense of training. It is in this spirit that we decided to entrust the national team to Laurent Bonadei.”
Bonadei said: “I thank the Federation for the trust they placed in me. I am proud and honored.
“Leading the national team is a great responsibility that I take seriously and with commitment. I am continuing the work accomplished by Hervé Renard, with whom I worked closely during these 17 months with the French women’s team.”
France have already booked their place in next summer’s European Championship.
They topped Group A3, ahead of England, picking up four wins from their six games, including a 2-1 victory over the Lionesses in May. England won the return fixture in June by the same scoreline.
