McLaren signs on for Westminster estate regeneration

McLaren has signed up to work on part of a landmark estate regeneration in central London.

Westminster Council appointed the London-based firm to the second phase of its Ebury Bridge scheme under a preconstruction services agreement (PCSA). The contract is initially worth £4.8m, but may increase to up to £7.3m.

The overall project replaces a 1930s estate with 781 new homes, 370 of which are for social rent. John F Hunt won the contract for demolition across the whole scheme in July 2020.

The second of the three phases, worth £302m, features 334 homes, 250 of which are designated affordable.

Under the PCSA, McLaren will act as main contractor for a 12-month period, when the council will decide whether or not to extend its contract. Main works are due to start in winter 2025.

Bouygues UK is currently building the scheme’s £113m first phase, where the first residents are due to move in next autumn.

In January, Westminster Council said it would make “small amendments” to its plans for phases two and three to accommodate second staircases in response to new building regulations.

McLaren managing director for regeneration John Butten said: “Ebury Bridge is a landmark development for Westminster and being appointed under a PCSA to advise on phase two of the project is testament to our team’s capabilities.

“We’re using our experience in building complex residential and regeneration schemes around London while creating positive social impact for local communities, to help bring Westminster’s vision to life.”

Councillor Matt Noble said McLaren was an “experienced contractor and expert in its field” with a “strong reputation and proven track record for delivering quality and excellence”.
