Morgan Sindall has been appointed to build a £60m secondary school in Cardiff.
The UK’s second-largest contractor has already carried out enabling works at the Willows High School site on Lewis Road in Splott, to the east of Cardiff’s city centre.
But the company has now been locked in for main construction works, which will see the erection of a new school campus for 900 students aged between 11 and 16 as well as a Special Resource Base for 30 SEN students.
The school campus, which will replace the existing Willows High School facility, will feature teaching and learning spaces, a sports hall, drama studio and grass pitches as well as “enhanced pedestrian facilities”.
The scheme is backed by Cardiff City Council and received planning permission in May. Construction is expected to complete in time for the 2026/27 school year.
Enabling works included demolition of existing buildings on site, installation of utilities, relocation of existing services, excavation and ground works as well as erection of boundary fencing.

Deputy leader of Cardiff Council and cabinet member for education Sarah Merry said: “This represents significant investment in the local area and the whole community will benefit from the improved facilities provided at the new school, including sports pitches available for public use.”
