Pistons nearing deal to make J.B. Bickerstaff next head coach: Sources

The Detroit Pistons are nearing a deal to make J.B. Bickerstaff the franchise’s next head coach, team sources said.

Bickerstaff was most recently the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team dismissed him in May after 4 1/2 seasons, three postseason appearances and 170 regular-season wins with him at the helm.

Bickerstaff, 45, guided the Cavs to their first playoff series victory since 2018 and their first without LeBron James on the roster since 1993.

Bickerstaff replaces Monty Williams, who the Pistons fired in June one year after inking him to a six-year, $78.5 million deal.
