Our Experience Making Homemade Slushie Syrup

A few years ago, I went to a friend’s summer bash, and one of the fun things they had out was a slushie bar.  It was so much fun and I left their house thinking, “I NEED a slushy machine!”  I tried ordering a specific brand online, but by the end of the summer, they were out of stock. I ended up making crushed ice in a blender until we could get our hands on a slushie maker that was quicker to use.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cups Water
  • 1 packet of flavored drink powder
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Place sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir the mixture to avoid the sugar sticking to the saucepan!
  2. Let it boil for about 2 minutes more. then remove it from the heat.
  3. Add in any drink powder to the hot mixture. Use your kiddo’s favorite flavoring, of course!
  4. Let it cool down a little and place it in a squeeze bottle. Let it chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Make your ice as you’re chilling the syrup. You may use a food processor or blender to crush the ice.
