Royals trade Brady Singer to Reds for Jonathan India, Joey Wiemer

The Kansas City Royals announced on Friday that they had sent right-handed starter Brady Singer to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for second baseman Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer.

The Royals selected Singer, 28, in the first round of the 2018 draft. He recently finished his fifth season in Kansas City with a 3.71 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 179 2/3 innings.

The Athletic reported on Nov. 16 that the Royals and Reds were in talks about a deal that could involve Singer and India, who batted .248 with 15 home runs and 13 home runs in 2024. India, who turns 28 in December, was named National League of the Year in 2020.

Wiemer, 25, came to the Reds along with Jakob Junis in July from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for Frankie Montas. He struggled at Triple-A Louisville once joining the Reds organization, batting .191 with a .508 OPS in 118 plate appearances.

With Nick Martinez accepting the qualifying offer on Tuesday, Singer will join a rotation that also includes Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo and Andrew Abbott.

Michael Massey led the Royals in playing time at second base this past season, followed by free agent Adam Frazier and Maikel Garcia, who mostly played third base. Massey is a left-handed hitter while India bats from the right side.
