I think this break from the Ottawa Senators is exactly what we all need right now.
The first half of this season has been an exhausting, roller coaster ride that has frayed the emotions of everybody around the hockey club.
The excitement around new ownership in training camp quickly morphed into frustration and anger over a hellacious stretch for the hockey club.
A lengthy suspension handed out to Shane Pinto.
A stripped first round draft pick, which led to the termination of Pierre Dorion.
The firing of D.J. Smith in December.
While the season is pretty much lost — at least from a playoff perspective — at least the Senators went into their break on a 6-2-2 stretch and playing their best hockey of the season. This recent stretch has maybe tempered some of the frustration in the marketplace.
And this pause in the schedule is the perfect time to drop in a survey to see how Senators fans are feeling about the current state of the franchise.
With everybody able to take a deep breath and reflect — away from the ups and downs of the schedule — we might get an accurate picture about how fans are feeling about a myriad of topics.
How confident are you in the new ownership and management team?
Who is the ideal candidate to be the permanent head coach?
What should the Senators do ahead of the trade deadline?
What assessment would you give to Pierre Dorion and D.J. Smith for the entirety of their time in Ottawa?
And where should the Senators’ new arena be located?
