The Houston Texans will enter the season with backup quarterback Davis Mills extended through 2025, league sources said.
Mills, 25, was entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract after the Texans selected him in the third round of the 2021 draft. He’s agreed to a one-year extension with $5 million in new money, a league source said.
Mills will continue to play backup behind C.J. Stroud as the Texans look to replicate last season’s success.
Houston went 10-7 under first-year coach DeMeco Ryans with Stroud starting as a rookie. The Texans returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2019, beating the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round.
Mills threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns in six regular-season games (no starts) and appeared in one playoff game. He’s played in 34 career regular-season games with 26 starts.
Case Keenum, Houston’s other quarterback, was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August.
