£235m has been allocated to reduce potholes in London, which the government said was redirected from HS2s cancelled phase two. Critics pointed out that the government had pledged to divert that money into transport projects for areas in the North of England that had stood to benefit from HS2.

The third quarter of 2023 saw the lowest number of residential buildings granted planning permission since 2006, the Home Builders Federation reported.
