Video(s) of the Week: Controlling the Factors That Impact Substrate pH

Greenhouse Grower occasionally highlights a video that shines a spotlight on the controlled-environment industry, from crop protection advice to insider views on plant production at greenhouse operations across the country. Have you recently produced a video that you want us to highlight? If so, please send a link to Greenhouse Grower Multimedia Specialist Nick Matysik at [email protected].

The pH of a plant’s substrate heavily affects its health. The pH imbalance of a solution toward acidity or basicity can lead to deficiencies due to a toxic growth environment or through a lack of absorbed nutrients, respectively. While pH-testing methods are available, growers need to be aware of the many factors that can influence and affect the pH of a substrate, whether immediately or over time.

This week’s video(s) from e-Gro (Electronic Grower Resources Online), with speakers Patrick Veazie and Brian Whipker of North Carolina State University, look at factors that impact substrate pH, including fertilizer types and water alkalinity. All of these videos and more can be found hosted on the e-GRO Webinars YouTube Channel.
